Are You Exhausted? How CBD Can Help Fix Your Sleep

sleep model

Do you ever have a night where you toss and turn, unable to get good, restful sleep? Typically, this results in a day of drowsiness, where you might stumble through your normal activity in a quasi-zombified state. This happens to all of us from time to time, and it can be annoying. But when it’s a pretty regular facet of your life, it can be downright worrisome.

That’s because chronic drowsiness and fatigue can compromise your performance at school and work. And it can impair your physical health and mental wellbeing in a number of ways. And while chronic drowsiness can have a number of causes, there are also some potential solutions. In fact, many people have found CBD to be useful in fixing their sleep.

What are the Most Common Sleep Problems?

Before we get into the CBD of it all, let’s review some of the most common sleep disorders. One of the big ones is restless leg syndrome, or RLS, where you feel an unpleasant sensation that prompts you to move or shake your leg throughout the night. Naturally, this can make it hard to relax long enough to fall to sleep. There’s also sleep apnea, which is a breathing disorder, and narcolepsy, which refers to daytime sleepiness that cannot be controlled.

The most common sleeping problem, however, is insomnia. Insomnia may present with any of the following symptoms:

  • Difficulty falling to sleep at night
  • Waking up during the night
  • Waking up too early and not being able to fall back to sleep
  • Feeling ill-rested, even after a night of sleep
  • Tiredness throughout the day
  • Irritability, depression, or mood disorders
  • Difficulty paying attention or concentrating on daily tasks

Insomnia is nothing to mess around with: Not only can it impact your quality of life in a negative way, but it has also been linked with a number of health issues, even cardiovascular concerns.

Can CBD Be an Effective Treatment for Insomnia?

The good news is that there are a number of therapeutic modalities that have shown some effectiveness in addressing insomnia. Here, it’s important to note that what works for one person may not work for everyone, and it’s always best to talk with your doctor about the solutions that are right for you.

With all of that said, there is ample reason to consider CBD as a potential remedy for insomnia. To understand why this is the case, it’s important to keep in mind that insomnia may have a number of external causes. And while CBD may not address insomnia directly, it may be beneficial in addressing some of those underlying factors.

For example, insomnia is often rooted in untreated anxiety. And while the clinical research into CBD is still nascent, there is some compelling evidence to suggest its utility as an anxiety reducer. More specifically, studies have shown that CBD may be useful in controlling anxiety in order to promote a better night’s sleep.

Another possible contributor to insomnia is chronic pain. Again, the research is still fairly new, but there is a growing body of evidence to show that CBD can be effective on mediating the symptoms of chronic pain.

There are even studies showing that CBD can help remedy REM sleep behavior disorder, a condition that can disrupt the natural restfulness of sleep.

The bottom line: If you suffer from insomnia, there is reason to consider CBD as a natural, holistic remedy.

Where to Start with CBD?

If you’re interested in considering CBD’s usefulness in promoting sleep, the first step is to talk with your doctor, ensuring that this is a wise way for you to address your insomnia. If you have serious medical issues like sleep apnea, it may be recommended that you seek additional treatments, as well.
