Can CBD Help a Low Libido?

Cannabidiol—also known as CBD—is a compound that is found in the cannabis plant. In recent years, CBD has garnered great attention on its possible ability to impact many facets related to health and wellness.  One particular area that has been examined intensely is CBD’s potential to help enhance enjoyment in the bedroom. Some early studies show that CBD has the ability to perhaps boost libido and increase lubrication, thus leading to a more enjoyable sexual experience.

So, in this blog, the team at Asé Pure Naturals will discuss how CBD could possibly help your sex life.  Keep reading to discover what the research has show thus far.

Libido & CBD: What’s the Connection?

In order to truly understand how CBD might be able to improve your intimate time with your partner (or even by yourself), let’s first examine how CBD works in the body.

Within each of our bodies is the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which contains tiny receptors that can be activated by CBD and set off a series of reactions. These reactions can be anti-inflammatory and anti-convulsant and also relieve anxiety, decrease stress, enhance feelings of calm, and much more.

Now, keeping this in mind, some of the research regarding CBD and its impact on libido is a bit contradictory as there have been some studies that have shown that chronic cannabis use (involving products with THC) can lower libido.  However, as it relates directly to CBD that has under 0.3 percent THC, an article published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences discusses a study that  uncovered ECS receptors in the testicles. These receptors directly connect to receptors in the brain, which could definitely aid in helping improve sexual function and response.

Other key research shows how implementing CBD products may improve libido by reducing anxiety, i.e., stage freight, per se, about sexual performance. In this regard, if you reduce anxiety that might be present during a sexual situation, it may be possible to boost one’s libido and satisfaction.

Another point on how CBD could improve libido: CBD has the potential to increase blood flow to the tissues in the body, including genitalia. When blood flow is increased, sensitivity is improved and thereby promotes the body’s own natural lubrication, which could also make sex more enjoyable.

Neurotransmitters that Improve Sex

It also must be noted that CBD, while it does not have psychoactive affects, does present the opportunity to boost one’s mood by triggering a neurotransmitter in the brain called anandamide. This neurotransmitter is associated with oxytocin, aka “the cuddle hormone.” Ultimately, when this bliss neurotransmitter is turned on by CBD (no pun intended), the body will respond by creating endorphins, which can contribute to an improved sexual experience.

Are There Other Benefits to CBD in the Bedroom?

Some other research has shown that CBD has the potential to help with other issues in the bedroom, including erectile dysfunction (ED).  While some of the information that surrounds this is still a bit vague, the majority of the data points to the idea that CBD could help a man to relax, which could lead to less stress as they think about their future performance with their partner. Additionally, CBD could also relax blood vessels, which could speed up blood flow to the penis.

How to Get in the Mood with CBD

Because CBD products come in so many forms, including tinctures, edibles, and topicals, there are plenty of ways to use it when getting in the mood for some one-on-one time with your partner. Here at Asé Naturals, we encourage you to play around with different forms of application to see what is best for you and the person you are planning on being intimate with.

Here are a couple sexy ideas on how to use CBD:

  • Ingest CBD oil or pop an edible prior to sex to get rid of nervousness and butterflies while boosting some good vibes and confidence.
  • Implement a CBD-infused lubricant to address dryness and help achieve pleasure.
  • Perform a massage on your partner using CBD oil—and have them return the favor.
